Birmingham, AL – Higher Education for Alabama women will take center stage at the
56th Annual Linly Heflin Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show, at the Sheraton
Birmingham Hotel Ballroom on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Well-known local clothier
Gus Mayer will present the latest Fall/Winter designs to an audience who has supported
Linly Heflin scholarships for over thirty years.

The October event will start at noon. Tickets are $50 and available by calling the Linly
Heflin office at 205-871-8171. Gus Mayer’s Michael Tatum is set to produce the show.
Wendy Garner will serve as emcee for the event.

The long running Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show continues to be the group’s
primary fundraiser for its scholarship program, which benefits women seeking higher
education in Alabama. The Linly Heflin Unit’s motto, “Educate a woman and you
educate a family” is at the core of the service organization founded in 1919. Through the
years over 3,000 scholarships, totaling more than $5 million, have been awarded to
deserving Alabama women attending colleges and universities in Alabama. Currently
100 scholars are enrolled in 14 different schools. For more information go to the website

The Linly Heflin Unit is a committed group of 125 volunteers headed by President Kate
Stockham. Co-chairs of the 56th Annual Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show are
