Birmingham, AL –
Los Angeles-based designer Lourdes Chavez began making beautiful clothing after her graduation from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising specializing in couture design. She will present her Fall/Winter, 2012 Collection at the 54th Annual Linly Heflin Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel Ballroom on Thursday, September 27, 2012.

Ms. Chavez was born and meant to be a designer but is equally a talented pattern maker and seamstress which serves to enhance her entire process. Her career began with two prestigious houses in Los Angeles but her true talent and creativity blossomed when she opened her own house in December of 1997. She has been creating amazing designs with each collection and developed into a world class designer who has been honored with numerous awards. Ms. Chavez plans to present dynamite feminine cocktail suits, beautiful evening dresses and special occasion gowns to the Birmingham audience in the Sheraton Ballroom. She hand sketches each item with her clients comfort and appearance in mind and has a clear focus on future trends while keeping her styling and taste current but ultimately classic and timeless.

The September event will start at noon. Tickets are $50.00 and available by calling the Linly Heflin office at 205.871.8171. Fashion Show producer Megan LaRussa is planning a new and exciting show sure to please a full house. Miss Alabama 1994, Amie Beth Shaver will serve as emcee for the event. Lourdes Chavez is introduced through well known clothier Gus Mayer, a longtime sponsor and partner of the Linly Heflin Unit.

The long running Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show continues to be the primary fundraiser for its scholarship program which benefits women seeking higher education in Alabama. The Linly Heflin Unit’s motto, “Educate a woman and you educate a family” is at the core of the service organization founded in 1919. In recent years over three thousand four year scholarships totaling more than two million dollars have been awarded to deserving women attending state colleges and universities.
